2. IoT Trends

This track is all about the latest developments in the IoT space and how you can incorporate these new ideas into your next design. One session that caught my eye is A Microservice Approach to IoT Edge Computing, presented by the chief architect of Dell's largest open-source project.

The session explains how an open-source, vendor-neutral microservice architecture can help:

  • Address the challenges of the IoT protocol soup
  • Incorporate edge analytics or event processing
  • Allow for continual improvements and upgrades

The presentation will also explore other challenges (and lessons learned) that a microservice IoT architecture introduces. These include dealing with orchestration/deployment, security, and additional communication latency.

3. Integration

Every IoT design involves a good bit of integration—hardware, software, services, and more. This track brings you innovative new ways to bring it all together. Particularly noteworthy: Integrating Alexa & Location Services in a Serverless Architecture, from the Senior Developer Evangelist at HERE, the open location platform.

Join in and learn how to integrate voice-enabled commands with Amazon Alexa and location services using AWS Serverless Architecture. This session gives you the ability to create your own unique microservices and then connect them with AWS IoT.

4. Containers and Virtualization

Software containers are not a new technology, but their recent adaptation to the embedded industry offers new ways to dynamically deploy services on embedded devices that were once locked down by monolithic software stacks. Since embedded devices are typically low-power solutions with smaller footprints, new ways of managing embedded applications in containers become critical. This is especially true for creating extensible solutions with relatively limited system resources.

In this session, learn how using an embedded container system unlocks the potential of smaller-footprint devices by creating an optimized flexible platform that meets the unique system-level demands of IoT devices.

5. AI at the Edge

AI is all the rage, but how do you deploy it in IoT systems? The answers await in this track.

For example, check out Natural Digital Experience Leveraging Ambient Intelligence. Speakers are Mihir Punjabi, Principal Solutions Architect, and Sunil Kumar Jang Bahadur, Technical Architect, both focused on edge intelligence at Capgemini.

Their session looks at ways that voice, vision, and text communications can be extended to machines to achieve a natural digital experience (NDE). This session provides an overview of NDE, including:

  • Real-world use cases.
  • An architecture deep dive for NDE proof-of-concept (POC) involving voice, intelligent vision, and gestures, as well as a POC demo.
  • A vision for how machines can collaborate with humans, and one another, to achieve an autonomous ecosystem.
